To Bubble Team, why not go open-source?

To Bubble Team,

have you ever considered the possibility of open-sourcing parts of the Bubble code? For example, although Firebase is not free software, they have open-sourced all of their clients/SDKs. That means people that use Firebase can contribute with PRs and make the development go faster.

That way Bubble would move faster and the team would be able to better decide what should be left for OS development and what’s better to be done by the team itself. You’d even be able to use something like BountySource to get people really interested in contributing. I’m sure you guys know the benefits of what I’m talking about.

Would love to know what you @emmanuel and @josh think.

Open Source doesn’t work that way

A business is more than code.

You can always download linux source code and start a business like Red Hat.

https://git.kernel.org/

How many people embark on something like that?

Edit: this was a reply to @retronwebservices but as he withdraw his reply (as he is entitled to) I’m just adding this edit so it doesn’t look weird

I read sometime ago from them that going Open Source is on their mind but I wouldn’t expect it in the short/medium term.

It’s not as easy as saying let’s release the code to github

Bubble is OS minded as you can read in their job page.

That commitment is only in case they close down, so I think it doesn’t apply.

It doesn’t. Just saying they are OS minded.
