It would be super convenient if it were possible to easily move items back/forward and anywhere in between, rather than being limited to the two current options of “bring to front” and “send to back.” I know the workaround is cut & paste, but it’s not nearly as glance-friendly or intuitive a visual as dragging things up/down within a list and seeing the placements of all elements in relation to one another at once while doing so.

Yes - this would be the best. Especially for mobile focused apps where everything is group based.
